Artist/Author/Teacher
Art has always been how I make sense of the world—how I explore, express, and connect. It’s a way of seeing beyond the obvious, of finding meaning in patterns, colors, and textures.
Whether I’m painting, sewing, or designing, creativity is at the core of everything I do.
I am not perfect. I make mistakes—often. But art... Art isn’t about getting it right. It’s about trying, exploring, and figuring out what works and what doesn’t. It’s about expression, curiosity, and the willingness to see things differently.
I’ve always been drawn to potential—in people, places, and ideas. That’s what led me to serve as Mayor of my hometown, Volant, PA, for five years, before moving to Pittsburgh to broaden my career and creative reach. As the borough’s first female Mayor, I embraced leadership as a form of creativity—imagining what’s possible and working to bring it to life. Now, I live in Pittsburgh with my four furry friends and my partner, John, continuing my work as an artist, teacher, and advocate for creative expression.
Leadership, like art, is about vision—seeing beyond what is and believing in what could be.
My artistic journey began at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh and Westminster College, where I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts Communications. Later, I pursued an Art Education degree and certification at Carlow University, combining my love of creating with a passion for teaching.
Over the years, I’ve worked to make creativity more accessible to everyone.
I co-founded and now direct Studio Forget-Me-Not in Carnegie, PA—a space where neurodivergent artists can explore and express themselves freely. Before that, I spent six years working at and later leading a creative day program, helping individuals with intellectual disabilities find their artistic voice.
Outside of that work, my own art is deeply rooted in textile design, inspired by the craftsmanship of my mother and grandmothers. I’m drawn to patterns, textures, and bold colors, blending tradition with a modern, playful touch. My love of jewelry-making adds to this, allowing me to design kitschy, statement-making pieces for people who love to stand out.
In my spare time, I love bringing my work to life through pop-ups, where I showcase and sell my creations. My pop-up, Ms. Kitschy Witch, is a vibrant collection of my handmade designs—dresses, jewelry, and home goods infused with a mid-century modern aesthetic and a spirit of bold self-expression. It’s where art and fashion collide, and where
kitschy is always encouraged.
I also love teaching in spaces that embrace my philosophy—where individuality isn’t just welcomed, it’s celebrated.
At the end of the day, my belief is simple:
Art is for everyone. Creativity is power. Mistakes are part of the process.
And a little bit of magic never hurts.
